Lesson 3 : Convergent and Divergent Thinking, Logical Mindmap, Stereotypes

CONVERGENT AND DIVERGENT THINKING

convergent thinking

  • One he called "convergent" thinking, in which the person is good at bringing material from a variety of sources to bear on a problem, in such a way as to produce the "correct" answer. This kind of thinking is particularly appropriate in science, maths and technology.

  • Because of the need for consistency and reliability, this is really the only form of thinking which standardised intelligence tests, (and even national exams) can test

  • The other he termed "divergent" thinking. Here the student's skill is in broadly creative elaboration of ideas prompted by a stimulus, and is more suited to artistic pursuits and study in the humanities.

CONVERGENT THINKING

Convergent thinking is a thought that attempts to consider all information and arrive at the single best possible answer. Most of the thinking called for in schools is convergent, as schools require students to gather and remember information and make logical decisions and answers accordingly.

DIVERGENT THINKING

Divergent thinking is a thought process or method used to generate creative ideas. It is often used in conjunction with convergent thinking, which follows a particular set of logical steps to arrive at one "correct" solution.

So basically, in my opinions convergent comes after divergent thinking. Convergent thinking is when it has an accurate answer while Divergent thinking is brainstorming.

LOGICAL MIND MAP

Mind map is used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea.mind map is a graphical way to represent ideas and concepts. We normally used it to help study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and writing. There alot of method on doing mind maps. It started out with stating the main topic and arranging it by group such as their objectives our problems.

EXAMPLES OF MIND MAPS

STEREOTYPES

Stereotypes are characteristics ascribed to groups of people involving gender, race, national origin and other factors. These characteristics tend to be oversimplifications of the groups involved, however. for examples, Asians tend to look high on Caucasians. Stereotyping is also a form of prejudice that can form damaging images of people because of a particular characteristic without having any knowledge of the person such as how people tend to believe that middle eastern people are terrorists and should be feared.

Stereotypes are sometimes logical and can be true. Some people uses it to remind their kids to be a better person. Stereotypes even helps people to be aware over something. Like for example don't trust any gypsies.

LESSON 2 NOVELTY,CREATIVITY,INNOVATION AND INVENTION

In week three we learn a new topic which is about novelty, creativity, innovation and invention

Novelty

novelty come from the word ''new" in latin. Novelty is the quality of being new. Although it may have an objective dimension it essentially exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals.

INNOVATION

Technically, "innovation" is defined merely as "introducing something new;" there are no qualifiers of how ground-breaking or world-shattering that something needs to be only that it needs to be better than what was there before.

INVENTION

basically, to me novelty means something new, innovation is introducing something new and invention is creating that something new.

Originality and Authenticity
originality is something that is originally from ourselves. An idea that comes from our head.

authenticity refers to the truthfulness of origins, attributions, commitments, sincerity, devotion, and intentions.

examples of originality is

Lesson 1 : Defining Creativity

"Creative is when you can close your eyes and can paint a picture in your mind.".

Creativity is the ability to generate innovative ideas and manifest them fromthought into reality. The process involves original thinking and then producing.

In my own opinion, creative is something that is born in each human being. Everyone can be creative. Even a two year child is creative in a way.

Creativity is the ability to think up and design new invention, produce works of art, sove problems in a new way or developing an idea.

Nowadays people don't see creativity as a necessary in life and slowly they forget on how to use it. Besides that, they also think that only a minor of people can be creative.

The reason why is because ;

  1. For them, creative is hard
  2. Only some people can be creative
  3. Artist are the only one who is creative
  4. brainstorming is hard
People dont realize it but everyone is creative in their on way, for example how they use the pencil or how they create their on hand writting

creative is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration
